Announcements

THIS WEEK: Central Night Shelter Opportunities. Please sign up to volunteer at the Central Night Shelter this winter. Kairos is responsible for “staffing” the shelter with 6-8 people on the following dates: Thursday Feb 2nd, and Friday March 9th. Contact Neal Foushee for information and/or to sign up nealfoushee@gmail.com

NEW: Sunday Morning Group. It is hard to get to know other couples when you are trying to watch your children while holding a conversation. That is why we thought that it would be a good idea to create a weekly opportunity for parents to gather before worship so we can enjoy each other’s company while our children enjoy childcare. We envision this to be a time when we can have fellowship, conversation based study, and the opportunity to pray for one another. We hope you will join us at 9:15 starting on January 22nd for some grown-up time. Please contact Lori Delange for more information: loridelange@hotmail.com

Children’s Ministry Position. We are currently searching for a part-time (15-20 hr pw) Children’s Ministry Coordinator. Our Children’s Ministry is growing deep and wide and we are looking for someone who can coordinate curriculum, childcare, and volunteers as we seek to teach, nurture, and encourage our little ones to follow in the way of Jesus. Please forward resumes and recommendations to Thomas@KairosAtlanta.org

PLEASE Volunteer in 2012. Make a New Year’s Resolution that will make a differennce to your community of faith – sign up to volunteer on one of our teams, or offer to use your gifts/passions/skills at Kairos. You have been blessed by others at our church – now it may be your turn to be a blessing to others. Contact Beth@KairosAtlanta.org to become a volunteer, to offer your gifts/passions/skills, or to learn more.

New Membership Opportunity. The next membership class will be held on Saturday, February 11th from 9am-noon. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the vision and values of Kairos, and to consider a commitment to “encourage one another daily to follow in the way of Jesus” through this community. Contact Thomas for information and/or to sign up: thomas@kairosatlanta.org

A Moveable Feast. Join us for a potluck supper at one of five different homes located throughout the Atlanta area on Sunday, February 19th. Time to be announced – but early enough to bring the little ones. Please see the pink sign-up sheets on the table this Sunday for locations.

Kairos PODCAST! Check out the sidebar on the website to get a podcast of Kairos sermons. Thanks to Sean Adorno (who is now living in Charleston!) for initiating and providing this service.

News You Should Know

Dear Kairos Friends:

I must say that I never expected that my introduction to the community of Kairos would be quite so dramatic; but life often takes unexpected turns, as mine did on December 22 when I was in a head-on automobile collision. I understand that word spread quickly through the Kairos community and that I have been well and frequently prayed for. I have experienced the power of your prayers and cannot imagine getting through this without a community of pray-ers behind me. I have also experienced your “extravagant generosity” in cards, emails, offers of transport and food (lots of really good food!). Paul’s opening words to the church at Philippi come to my mind when I think of you at Kairos: Every time you cross my mind, I break out in exclamations of thanks to God. Each exclamation is a trigger to prayer. I find myself praying for you with a glad heart (Phil 1:3-5, MSG). I look forward to being back among you soon, where we will continue to “encourage one another daily to follow in the way of Jesus.”

With great thanksgiving for you,

Camille Josey

News You Should Know

The sanctuary has a Christmas Tree thanks to Kate and Clay Burns. We are so grateful for their thoughtful gesture, and for those who helped to decorate the tree on December 4th. It looks beautiful. Please convey your appreciation to the Burns.

Congratulations to Billy and Caroline Van Eaton who were married in Alabama on December 3rd. The wedding was, by all accounts, beautiful. We hope, pray, and trust that their marriage will be blessed and beautiful too.

Peter Langham reports that “Kairos was very generous again this year” in the Pride For Parents drive. We collected 55 presents and $530.00 in gift cards. Thank you to all who participated. Special thanks to Barbara Exley and Peter Langham for organizing the drive and arranging delivery of the gifts.

THIS WEEK! December Sunday Morning Class. In this Advent season of promises, blessings, and waiting, Kairos is offering a 3 week course on the story of Jacob. The inheritor of God’s promise to make of Abraham’s seed “a great nation” that will be a blessing to “all the families of the earth”, Jacob is one of the most well-developed and human characters in the Bible. Like us, he is the recipient of God’s blessing, but is unwilling to leave things up to God. Please join us this week, Sunday, December 4th, as we begin this three-week study, which will be held from 9:30-10:25 in the children’s area downstairs and will be led by Walter DuPre. The first week focuses on Genesis 25:19 – 27:45.

Membership Opportunity. The next membership class is scheduled for Saturday, December 10 from 9am-noon. This is a great opportunity to learn about the vision and values of Kairos – and to explore how we can live them out together. Childcare is available.
Kairos Christmas Market…kind of. There are several people in our church who are artists of some kind and/or who sell items to benefit their charities. It is probably too late to pull together a Christmas Market (?) – but let’s get word out about who offers what! We can support each other, find unique items, and make our holiday gift buying even more meaningful this season. There is pottery, paintings, jewelry, calligraphy services, cds, children’s books…etc etc in our midst. Share your info via Facebook and we’ll create a go-to list. And/or contact Beth@KairosAtlanta.org

Kairos PODCAST! Check out the sidebar on the website to get a podcast of Kairos sermons. Thanks to Sean Adorno (who is now living in Charleston!) for initiating and providing this service.

The Kairos community is thrilled to welcome Camille Josey to our staff. Camille is a gifted and experienced woman, eligible for ordained ministry, who will help to bring structure and organization to our growing endeavors – a position already provided for in the 2011 budget and deemed necessary by the recent survey findings. Please pray for Camille in her new position and ministry.
